My Favorite Place to Eat During SpeedWeeks

    Friday, February 12, 2010, 1:27 PM [General]

You always need some good food when you go on the road and whenever I get to the Daytona area, there are always a few places I like to head to.

Deck Down Under, Port Orange, FL - The best seafood in the area!  Great atmosphere; it's just under the Port Orange Bridge.  A bunch of peeps from the NASCAR garage eat there regularly during SpeedWeeks.

The Garlic, New Smyrna Beach, FL - The best Italian food for SpeedWeeks!  The chicken parm is amazing, but so is everything else.  It's fresh and the abiance is perfect for a big party or a romantic dinner for two.  Try the Bocce Ball dish or Spuntitori Italiano.

Stonewood Grill, Ormond Beach, FL - This is a classy joint with an unbelievable assortment of food cooked on a wood-fired grill.  The Herb Crusted Grouper is great and the steak and chicken are as well.  The atmosphere is a little more upscale, but variety is the spice of life.

Pub 44, New Smyrna Beach, FL - The place that all the short trackers who race at New Smyrna Speedway all hang out.  It's typical bar food, but it's good.  And you never know if some of the fights from that night's racing action are going to spill over to the bar area of the restaurant.

Gettin' Back After It at Daytona

    Wednesday, February 10, 2010, 9:05 AM [General]

Really excited today to get back to racing.  It's been fun enjoying some Florida sun and some short track racing over the past couple of days, but I'm ready to get back to work for SPEED today (Wednesday) at the World Center of Racing.

A lot is on the line for the Cup drivers as we countdown to the Gatorade Duel, which is live on SPEED by the way, on Thursday.  Who will make it and who will go home?  That is the million dollar question in the garage right now leading up to the Duel.

See you guys at the track or on SPEED!

Danica... Will She or Won't She Finish the Race?

    Saturday, February 6, 2010, 1:35 PM [General]

I've been walking around the Sprint Fan Zone here at Daytona and a bunch of people have been asking me what lap will Danica Patrick wreck on in the ARCA race today at Daytona.  In fact, a bunch of peeps have told me they have pools going.

Here's my take.  Yeah she may wreck... Ray Dunlap told me she looked nervous while walking pit road with crew chief Tony Eury Jr. today.  BUT, she may be just  the thing that NASCAR needs right now.

We all know there have been a lot of complaints about certain things in the sport we all love so much lately.  Danica could be a shot of adrenaline we so desperately need!  Dave Despain told me the diehards think Danica-Mania is a bunch of bull... he may be right.  But just the fact that my daughter Katie asked me about her today (that's my daughter that doesn't care much about racing), tells me that she is bringing new fans into this sport.  That's a good thing.

So here's what I say... Go Danica!
