General Motors, just on the heels of completing the sale of its Saab brand, announced today that the Hummer sale to a Chinese industrial-machinery company had fallen through.
As a result, “GM will begin the orderly wind-down of the Hummer operations,” the automaker said. GM did not state the reason for the failure to sell the SUV brand.

The lengthy process of negotiations with Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines Co. was complicated by the need for approval by the powerful Chinese government, which had raised issues about Tengzhong’s lack of auto-production experience.
